Who are we?
Capital Cavy Club is a non-profit organisation based in Wellington, New Zealand, dedicated to promoting knowledge and care of guinea pigs, also known as cavies. Our mission is to build a strong community around these much-loved pets, combining education, support, and fun experiences for people of all ages.
We bring guinea pigs into the spotlight through community visits to schools, rest homes, hospitals, hospices, and local programmes. These educational and therapy visits help people learn more about cavies while also providing comfort, joy, and connection.
Alongside this, we host monthly guinea pig shows across the Lower North Island, with most events held in Wellington. Our shows include both pet and pedigree classes, offering a welcoming environment where owners and enthusiasts can showcase their cavies, share knowledge, and celebrate their passion together. More than competitions, these gatherings are opportunities to learn, socialise, and form lasting friendships.
