Pedigree Showing
A Pedigree Guinea Pig is one which meets the breed standard which is set by the New Zealand Cavy Judges Association. The judges association is continuously aiming to improve breed standards ethically, plus improving the genetics of Guinea Pigs.
This means that the guinea pigs are bred to a high standard. This category is great fun and for those who are looking for a bit more competition. If you are interested in learning more about pedigrees, come and visit us at a show! we will happily teach you everything you need to know and help with finding you the perfect cavy!

Pet Shows
In Capital Cavy Club, every Guinea Pig is considered a pet, we offer classes based on age group of the handler and then coat type of the guinea pig! Plus, we offer a whole lot of other classes, such as: best disabled pet, friendliest, quietest and fancy dress, plus many more! Therefore, if you currently have guinea pigs, feel free to bring them along! The only requirements is that they are to be clean and in healthy condition. Our more experienced members are able to help clip nails if needed and offer advice for presentation! This category is great for beginners and allows you to bring your current pets along to see what it is about, meet other like minded owners and have a fun day out! The pet category is split into age groups, which means even if you are an adult, you are still able to join in on the fun!
Community
At Capital Cavy Club, we are not just about showing and breeding guinea pigs. We are very focused on our local community, meaning we spend a large amount of spare time doing enrichment activities for the wider public. An example of a activity we hold is "cuddles with the cavies", this is an incentive across multiple universities where we spend time with the students, teaching them about guinea pigs, spreading public knowledge and awareness, plus having cuddles to relieve stress.
We also offer rest-home, hospital and hospice visits, which we do regularly at local rest homes through the central wellington region. We have the guinea pigs in small fleece beds, which people are able to pat and engage with the guinea pigs. This has been a very successful program and is very beneficial in the community, especially bringing an animal close to somebody who needs it.
Educational visits are another big part of Capital Cavy Club, as we believe guinea pigs are a commitment, so we offer services to help educate and prepare people around the needs of Guinea pigs and how to properly care for them.
