Pedigree Showing
A pedigree guinea pig is one that meets the official breed standards set by the New Zealand Cavy Judges Association. These standards are carefully developed and continuously refined to ensure that cavies are bred ethically, responsibly, and with the goal of improving both their quality and genetics.

Pet Shows
At Capital Cavy Club, every guinea pig is celebrated as a much-loved pet. Our pet classes are designed to be fun, inclusive, and beginner-friendly, giving owners the chance to showcase their cavies in a relaxed and supportive environment.
Classes are divided first by the age of the handler and then by the coat type of the guinea pig, making it fair and enjoyable for everyone. We also run a wide variety of special categories such as Best Disabled Pet, Friendliest, Quietest, Fancy Dress, and many more. These light-hearted classes are always a highlight and bring out the unique personalities of each guinea pig.
If you already own guinea pigs, you are welcome to bring them along. The only requirement is that they are clean, healthy, and ready to enjoy the day. Our experienced members are on hand to help with nail clipping, grooming, and presentation tips to make the experience stress-free.

At Capital Cavy Club, we are about so much more than showing and breeding guinea pigs. A big part of what we do is giving back to the Wellington community through enrichment activities that share the joy of cavies and spread awareness about their care.
One of our most popular initiatives is Cuddles with the Cavies, run at universities across the region. These sessions give students the chance to spend time with guinea pigs, learn more about them, and enjoy a moment of calm during stressful study periods. The combination of education and animal interaction makes these events both meaningful and memorable.
We also visit rest homes, hospitals, and hospices throughout central Wellington. Our guinea pigs are brought in soft fleece beds, allowing residents and patients to pat, cuddle, and connect with them. These visits have proven to be deeply rewarding, offering comfort and companionship, and bringing the joy of animals into the lives of people who need it most.
Education is another core focus of our club. We believe that guinea pigs are a long-term commitment, and we aim to help people prepare for that responsibility. Through school visits, workshops, and hands-on learning, we teach the essentials of guinea pig care and encourage responsible, informed ownership.
