Club Rules

1. Name
The club shall be known as Capital Cavy Club. Membership is open to all cavy enthusiasts.
2. Objectives
The purpose of the club is to promote interest in the care, breeding, and exhibition of cavies, and to encourage public awareness of responsible guinea pig ownership.
3. Membership
Any person may become a member upon payment of the annual subscription.
4. Subscriptions
Membership fees are due at the February show, when the Annual General Meeting (AGM) is held. Membership shall lapse if subscriptions are not received within three months of the end of the financial year.
5. Membership Conduct
The executive committee reserves the right to refuse or discontinue membership if, in its opinion, a member has acted against the best interests of the club. Any such member shall forfeit all rights.
6. Voting and Prize Eligibility
Only members who have paid their subscription to the club treasurer before the AGM are eligible to vote or receive prize money.
7. Junior Membership
Junior membership applies to those under 16 years of age at the time of paying their subscription.
8. Alterations to Rules
Club rules may only be added to or amended at an AGM.
9. Officers and Committee
The officers of the club shall be appointed annually at the AGM. The executive committee shall include a President, Secretary and/or Treasurer, Newsletter Editor, and Show Secretary. The committee has the power to manage the club’s affairs and fill any vacancies that arise during the year.
10. Executive Business
The executive may conduct club business via email or Facebook Messenger where necessary.
11. Voting Procedures
Voting at general meetings shall be by ballot or show of hands.
12. Complaints
Any member with a just cause may request an executive meeting to address a complaint by giving 10 days’ written notice to the Secretary. A refundable deposit of $10.00 must be lodged, which will be returned if the complaint is upheld.
13. AGM Propositions
Members wishing to bring propositions to the AGM must provide 14 days’ written notice. However, propositions from members present at the meeting may be considered at the committee’s discretion.
14. Voting Rights
Each member aged 16 years or over, who has paid their subscription, is entitled to one vote. In the case of a family subscription, each partner is entitled to one vote.
15. Club Finances
All club funds shall be banked into the club account. A financial report shall be presented at the AGM.
16. Dissolution
If the club is wound up, any remaining assets, after liabilities are met, shall be transferred to another body or institution as decided by the majority of members at an AGM or general meeting.
17. General Meetings
A general meeting may be conducted via email.
18. Exhibition Standards
All cavies exhibited must be in their natural condition, except where otherwise allowed under breed standards. Judges may disqualify any exhibit they believe has been altered to give a false impression of merit. Removal of guard hairs is not considered a breach of this rule.
19. Judges Exhibiting
A cavy judge officiating at a venue where two or more shows are being held may enter cavies in shows other than the one they are judging, provided there is no common award for Best in Show across all events.
20. Stock Purchases from Judges
Cavies purchased from a judge may not be exhibited under that judge until three months after the date of purchase.
21. Health Disqualification
Fatty eye shall be an immediate disqualification, but only when the defect is clearly visible without disturbing the eyelid.

Show Rules (in addition to Rule 18)
a) A cavy may not be entered in both the main show and the pet show at the same venue.
b) Longhair and Merino cavies must be shown on an individual show board sized appropriately for the cavy. One board per exhibit. Wrappers may be replaced after judging at the owner’s discretion.
c) All show rules will be strictly enforced. Failure to comply may result in disqualification and forfeiture of prizes.
